Bathrooms - From New Builds to Renovations - We're with you every step of the way.

Bathroom renovations can be a daunting project with multiple trades people involved at various stages, here at the Mercantile we can help you with your project. From helping plan your bathroom and assessing what can be done in your space, we can liaise with your existing trades people or recommend people we have worked with.

Below are a few things to consider when you decide on your new bathroom .

Bath or Shower?

Depending on the space available you might have to decide on a bath or shower. Consider the needs of the house in totality, people with muscular issues can benefit from a good soak. Of course a bath is good for anyone who wants to carve out some me time and is also great fun if you have young children. A larger shower is a necessity for teenage households during the busy times.

Showering.

There's an array of shower valves all with pro's and con's. Electric showers, power showers, Thermostatic mixer showers, again the choice is dependent on the number of users, personal choice, busy times and your heating system.

With regards to the enclosure, you can have level access open entry with slip resistant tiles which will future proof the shower for all ages or for added peace of mind a fully enclosed shower & tray. Consider shower niches on partition walls for extra storage.

Toilets.

The decision here is primarily to go wall hung of floor standing. Wall hung requires a void behind to accommodate the support frame and flushing mechanism for that luxurious spacious feel with the added benefit of being easy to clean. Floor mounted can be standard height or comfort height again suitable for the taller & older person for ease of use. For the ultimate experience you can opt for the shower toilet with automatic heated seats, heated water spray & drying functions with odour extraction.

Bathroom Furniture.

Apart from tiles the biggest consideration customers give is to the furniture. Regardless of the style, Traditional to contemporary the piece must be functional. Above all, storage is what makes a bathroom work. A space to store the bathroom staples along with personal items is a must. Here at the mercantile we have exclusively sourced the biggest range of modular furniture available, if you have a space from 45cm to over 2 meters we can design a solution from European manufactured Vanities using certified wood from

sustainable forests.

Tiles.

Tiles are your canvas that brings everything together. In recent times the choice has expanded immeasurably. People travel more so we see the cutting edge beauty of Italian & Spanish tile designs. Again the thing to consider is the intended use of a particular room. Family bathrooms can be lighter in tone with neutral tones to defy the passage of time, en-suites can be used to express your personality with decadent tones of navy and brass fixtures for that spa feel. Always bring a tile home to the room in question as lighting can have a huge effect on the appearance of a tile.

Lighting.

Lighting can have a transformative effect but is often overlooked in the bathroom. The success of your bathroom lighting scheme can have a positive or negative effect on the function of the room and your enjoyment of the space and believe it or not, lighting can also affect your confidence and the quality of your sleep. So whether you’re planning a major bathroom renovation or want to give your ensuite a lift, here are some lighting options consider.

Stunning pendant lights will fill your bathroom with radiance. The versatile design means it can be placed virtually anywhere in your bathroom.

Flush Ceiling Lights offer crisp ‘daylight’ illumination , whereas wall lights can compliment a classic look in the bathroom. There is also an extensive range of bathroom mirrors with different lighting options depending on the intended use.

Accessibility.

It's not always something we want to think about but designing our bathrooms for later stages in life can be achieved by tweaks in the design layout from taller W.C's to wet-rooms and sleek grab bars there is plenty of ways to future          proof our bathrooms, and we also cater for customers with more specific needs where more assistance is required.

Finally...Planning and Budget!

When designing your bathroom its good to start to with an item you have your heart set on whether that is a beautiful vanity or a particular tile and style the rest of your room around that item.

In the times we live in it is important to have a budget. A one off bathroom refurbishment can have a bit more flexibility as it is probably the first time in 20 years that the bathroom is being done and will last another 20. New builds can be more of a challenge as there are often 3-5 rooms and the budget has already been blown on Kitchens and Sash windows. Here at the Mercantile we have a long history of project management and can work to your budget to ensure you get the best looking bathroom and layout for your price range.
